I used your guide to install my wireless drivers on my Compaq Presario V, with the simple change of downloading the relevant drivers from hp instead. Then save the file, exit, sign off, and reboot. But now the Wireless network option does not come up on my network configuration interface. I finally got back to this problem today and for the second time I followed your very complete installation directions. So I dont know what I can do. I’m running 64 bit myself.

It’s a useful command but one that should always be used very carefully if you give it root permissions sudo. Gotta lock that down ASAP. We can also use sudo to give tee root permissions so we can write to the file that we otherwise couldn’t.

The additional drivers application shows a green icon and says it is “activated and currently in use”. I used this how to to once again install ndis with gutsy and it worked like a champ!
Currently, when I create the connection my wireless light on my router does not flicker – bad sign as this means no wireless activity. You must re-install Windows drivers if they were installed before. And to explain about the two commands: So yes you’ll still be able to see the networks and connect to them, just not to their full potential. Also check if you actually have an ndiswrapper.
My sarcasm was foiled by my inability to link correctly! Broadcom Corporation BCM If that doesn’t get you working then try wicd or one wirelesx the other graphical wireless interfaces around. But now the Wireless network option does not come up on my network configuration interface. But if bcm43xx is working for you, stick with it!
Are you new to LinuxQuestions. That was the trick. OK one more question, do I need to mess with wpa-supplicant for wireless security to work?
This meant I didn’t need wirelss do it manually using ndiswrapper. I had the same problem and that fixed it. My wireless got dropped and then I lost all networking following my broadcpm so no ethernet. No it won’t say anything. To my knowledge, they are installed by default.
